CARB appoints Manager of the Office of Environmental Justice Unit

SACRAMENTO – CARB appointed Ambreen Afshan as the inaugural Manager of the Office of Environmental Justice (OEJ). As manager she will oversee OEJ staff as well as the Office’s activities—including CARB’s efforts to advance racial equity, address environmental justice, inform community engagement, outreach, and partnership building.

Attorney General Bonta and California Air Resources Board Announce Settlement with Trucking Company for Falsely Claiming Emissions Compliance

SACRAMENTO – Attorney General Rob Bonta and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) today announced a $2.38 million settlement against Complete Logistics Company, LLC (CLC), resolving allegations that the trucking operator falsely claimed compliance with California emissions regulations in order to obtain $2.2 million in state grants to purchase newer, cleaner trucks. The Goods Movement Emission Reduction Program, funded under Proposition 1B, uses incentive grants to entice trucking companies to reduce emissions below the threshold required under law.

CARB approves Community Emissions Reduction Program for Stockton

SACRAMENTO – The California Air Resources Board approved the Community Emissions Reduction Program (CERP) for the city of Stockton as mandated under Assembly Bill 617. This is the 9th CERP adopted by the Board, and the third CERP to be brought forward by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.

New analysis shows spikes of metal contaminants, including lead, in 2018 Camp Fire wildfire smoke

SACRAMENTO – A new California Air Resources Board (CARB) analysis of air quality data collected during the deadly Camp Fire sheds new light on exactly what was in the thick smoke that blanketed much of Northern California for two weeks in November 2018. The document, published today, shows smoke produced from the Camp Fire exposed Californians to dangerous levels of particulate matter and contained concerning levels of toxic metal contaminants, including lead, which spiked for about 24 hours.

New California program awards 21 communities, tribes $20 million to launch shared, zero-emission mobility projects

SACRAMENTO – Twenty-one California nonprofits, local governments, transit agencies, and Native American tribal governments in under-resourced communities have been awarded up to $1 million each by the new Clean Mobility Options Voucher Pilot Program (CMO) to develop and launch zero-emission mobility projects, such as bikesharing and ride-on-demand services, aimed at overcoming transportation challenges faced by residents in their communities.
