The Meteorology Section within Air Quality Planning and Sciences Division is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong desire to develop technical expertise in the data collection, analysis and reporting of smoke impacts associated with agricultural and prescribed fire. The successful candidate will assist in developing performance and reporting enhancements to the Prescribed Fire Information Reporting System, integrating the Bluesky modeling framework used to forecast smoke impact from prescribed fires. The successful candidate will also assist in development of a surface and upper air data access platform with visualized plotting tools for surface and aloft meteorological parameters.

Air Pollution Specialist

The Community Assessment Section within the Office of Community Air Protection (OCAP) is seeking an outgoing Air Pollution Specialist (APS) to support the growing needs of the AB 617 Community Air Protection Program. In partnership with other CARB divisions, air districts, community based organizations, and community members, the scientist in this position will conduct and coordinate various organizational and technical tasks. Ideal candidates will have knowledge or experience in air quality analysis and source apportionment methodologies to support and refine the AB 617 community selection process and community emissions reduction programs. The APS will also be required to develop tools and databases to consolidate and update community specific technical information as the needs of the program grows. Public interaction, policy discussion and professional relationship building with stakeholders while maintaining cultural sensitivity are critical responsibilities of this position. As a result, superior interpersonal, verbal communication, writing and presentation skills are required that will enable the candidate to seek a deep understanding of local community concerns and convey technical information to a variety of audiences.

Staff Air Pollution Specialist

The Sustainable Transportation and Communities Division is looking for a Staff Air Pollution Specialist (SAPS) to join the Climate Investments Benefits Section. In this role, the SAPS will be responsible for providing the Division with in-depth transportation policy and funding expertise to address the unique challenges associated with advancing a more sustainable and equitable transportation system and climate-resilient communities. Using this expertise, the SAPS will evaluate existing or emerging State transportation programs, such as the California Transportation Commission's (CTC) Solution for Congested Corridors Program, for opportunities to reduce emissions and vehicle miles traveled in a way that achieves a range of environmental, social, and economic co-benefits, particularly in the State's disadvantaged and low-income communities. The SAPS will also be responsible for leading the agency's collaborative effort on public joint meetings with CTC and the Department of Housing and Community Development to implement policies that jointly affect transportation, housing, and air quality/climate. We are also looking for individuals with knowledge of CARB's major air quality and climate goals, transportation programs, as well State transportation policies and programs, and experience in one or more of the following transportation related areas: policy, planning, funding, equity, engineering, modeling, financing, or programming.
