CARB is charged with protecting the public from the harmful effects of air pollution and developing programs and actions to fight climate change. From requirements for clean cars and fuels to adopting innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, California has pioneered a range of innovative approaches that have set the standard for effective air and climate programs for the nation, and the world.

CARB employs over 1,700 staff as engineers, scientists, attorneys, automotive technicians, communication and information specialists, administrative analysts, and clerical support. Positions are available in Sacramento and Riverside.

Executive Officer Recruitment

CARB is seeking candidates for Executive Officer who is responsible for the 1,700 staff at CARB and its work. As an appointee of the Board, the Executive Officer will serve at the pleasure of the Board, work closely with the Chair, the sole full-time member of the Board, and perform duties as assigned by the Board. An ideal candidate will be an air quality and climate expert with a strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of CARB – a commitment to clean air for all Californians and a focus on priority communities that are overburdened by air pollution for decades.
