CARB approves new approach to measuring stationary source emissions to aid local air pollution inventory efforts

SACRAMENTO – The California Air Resources Board recently approved significant changes to the requirements for reporting emissions from stationary sources to help communities assess air pollution at a local level. The improvements to the emission inventory will help with prioritizing efforts to further reduce emissions of pollutants that cause smog as well as toxic air pollutants in communities.

California and Quebec release summary results from 25th joint cap-and-trade allowance auction

SACRAMENTO – Today at noon (PST), California and Quebec released the results of the 25th joint cap-and-trade auction of carbon allowances from both jurisdictions. The final numbers include sales figures and settlement prices for 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020 (current) and 2023 vintages (advance).

CARB and California electric utilities partner to offer consumers up to $1,500 off electric cars

SACRAMENTO  California electric utilities are teaming up with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to offer the California Clean Fuel Reward (CCFR), a point-of-sale price reduction of up to $1,500 for the purchase or lease of any eligible new Battery Electric or Plug-in Hybrid vehicle from a participating automotive retailer. Starting on Nov. 17, consumers will be able to purchase an eligible vehicle from an enrolled retailer and receive an instant reduction in the purchase price.

Attorney General Becerra and CARB file motion to intervene in lawsuit to protect vulnerable Los Angeles area communities from air pollution

SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) today filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit challenging the Port of Los Angeles’ approval of the revised China Shipping Terminal project and certification of its Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The China Shipping Terminal is located at the Port of Los Angeles, in close proximity to residential communities that are already exposed to disproportionately high amounts of air pollution.

Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., to pay $160k in penalties for small engine violations

SACRAMENTO Today the California Air Resources Board announced a settlement of $160,000 with Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. to resolve clean-air violations related to the sale of small off-road engines, typically used as replacements in lawn mowers and leaf blowers, in California. This is the first time that a manufacturer has been cited for failing to comply with the regulation specifically as it relates to replacement engines since its adoption in 1990.
