Metropolitan Planning Organization for Kings County
Kings County Association of Governments (KCAG), the federally-designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Kings County, is located in California’s San Joaquin Valley and is one of the smallest of the valley MPOs. KCAG adopted its first Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (RTP/SCS) in 2014, and second in 2018.
The 2018 RTP/SCS continues to prioritize agricultural preservation while encouraging growth in existing urbanized areas. Efforts within local jurisdictions to increase connectivity and mix of uses will help provide more housing choices for residents and decrease travel distances to destinations. Given the long commute distances common in the county, vanpools will continue to be an effective alternative to single occupant vehicle travel for some residents.
