The California Air Resources Board held a public meeting on September 28, 2017 to hear an update on the development of the San Joaquin Valley State Implementation Plan (SIP) for meeting multiple PM2.5 standards. The Board will also consider attainment contingency measures for the 15 ug/m3 annual PM2.5 standard.

September 26, 2017 Workshop
Staff of the California Air Resources Board held a joint workshop with the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 in Bakersfield to discuss strategies for meeting PM2.5 air quality standards in the San Joaquin Valley. This will be the third in a series of workshops conducted by CARB staff to assess opportunities for reductions from stationary and mobile sources as part of a comprehensive PM2.5 attainment strategy.

May 17, 2017 Community Meeting
CARB staff held a community meeting on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Fresno to discuss strategies for meeting PM2.5 air quality standards in the San Joaquin Valley. This was the second in a series of workshops conducted by CARB staff to assess opportunities for reductions from stationary and mobile sources as part of a comprehensive PM2.5 attainment strategy.

December 1, 2016 Public Workshop
CARB staff held a workshop on Thursday, December 1, 2016 to discuss strategies for meeting PM2.5 air quality standards in the San Joaquin Valley. At the workshop, staff presented a science-based assessment of the sources contributing to PM2.5 levels in the Valley, the benefits of current control programs, and an initial assessment of the scope of further emissions reductions needed to meet annual and 24-hour PM2.5 standards over the next ten years.

2016 PM2.5 Moderate Area Plan
On October 20, 2016, CARB conducted a public meeting to consider the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District’s (District) 2016 Moderate Area Plan for the 2012 PM2.5 Standard (2016 PM2.5 Plan). The Board directed CARB staff to conduct several workshops in the San Joaquin Valley to assess opportunities for further reductions from stationary and mobile sources. CARB staff will prioritize reductions that can happen in the near-term and assess long-term reductions that can be implemented prior to 2025. CARB staff will report back to the Board in February with recommendations and next steps for continued strategy development.
