Trains & Railyards
California is doing more than any other state to reduce harmful air pollution from freight trains and rail yards. Through a combination of state and federal regulations, incentive funding, binding agreements and voluntary actions by railroad companies, California has experienced dramatic reductions in rail-related airborne emissions and related health risks. Still, levels of diesel particles from trains remain too high, especially in communities near rail yards and more needs to be done.
