In 2022, CARB contracted with the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FCCC) to conduct surveys to non-truck transport refrigeration unit (TRU) fleets operating in California. This survey aimed to collect operational characteristics data of trailer TRU, domestic shipping container TRU, railcar TRU, and TRU generator set fleets (non-truck TRU fleets). The collected data may help CARB further assess the operations of non-truck TRUs and the capability of zero-emission technologies to meet various operational needs. The data may also help inform future regulatory efforts to transition non-truck TRUs to zero-emission.
