Metropolitan Planning Organization for Santa Barbara County
Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG), the federally-designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Santa Barbara County, is located along California’s Central Coast. SBCAG adopted its third Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (RTP/SCS) in 2021.
Connected 2050, SBCAG’s 2021 RTP/SCS, carries over many of land use and transportation strategies adopted in their previous 2017 SCS as well as adding several new strategies. The plan’s strategies are supporting jobs-housing balance and infill development around transit, new transit capital projects and bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, teleworking, new commuter and agricultural worker vanpools, and public charging for electric vehicles. Compared to the 2017 RTP, the 2021 RTP allocates a greater portion of its budget for transit and active transportation.
