Union Pacific Rail Company Case Settles for $525,000
Union Pacific Rail Company (UPRR) agreed to pay $525,000 in penalties to the Air Pollution Control Fund for violating the Drayage Truck Regulation. This settlement was reached on July 27, 2017.
After reviewing quarterly drayage noncompliance reports submitted by UPRR, as required by the Drayage Truck Regulation, staff of the Railroad and Marine Enforcement Section determined that UPRR failed to comply with the regulation by not accurately reporting for six terminals the required noncompliant truck information. To settle the case, UPRR has agreed to the $525,000 settlement, initiate a noncompliant truck turn away program, and to comply with the Drayage Truck Regulation.
With the enforcement of the Drayage Truck Regulation, ARB has been able to reduce emissions around the ports and rail yards from diesel air contaminants, protect the health of all Californians, including those in disadvantaged communities in and around the ports and rail yards.
