CA-GREET3.0 Model and Tier 1 Simplified Carbon Intensity Calculators
The amendments to the LCFS regulation the Board adopted at its September 2018 hearing replace CA-GREET2.0 with the CA-GREET3.0 model and Tier 1 Simplified CI Calculators for LCFS fuel life cycle analysis. The CA-GREET3.0 model is used to generate the carbon intensities (CIs) of all fuel pathways, including Lookup Table pathways and applicant-specific Tier 1 and Tier 2 pathways.
Current Version: Effective January 4, 2019 (released August 13, 2018*)
- CA-GREET3. 0 Model
- Tier 1 Simplified CI Calculator for Starch and Fiber Ethanol
- Tier 1 Simplified CI Calculator for Sugarcane-derived Ethanol
- Tier 1 Simplified CI Calculator for Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel
- Tier 1 Simplified CI Calculator for LNG and L-CNG from North American Natural Gas
- Tier 1 Simplified CI Calculator for Biomethane from North American Landfills
- Tier 1 Simplified CI Calculator for Biomethane from Anaerobic Digestion of Wastewater Sludge
- Tier 1 Simplified CI Calculator for Biomethane from Anaerobic Digestion of Organic Waste
- Tier 1 Simplified CI Calculator for Biomethane from Anaerobic Digestion of Dairy and Swine Manure
*Minor changes to models posted on August 13, 2018 are documented in the second LCFS errata.
CA-GREET3.0 Supplemental Document and Tables of Changes. The CA-GREET3.0 model was developed from GREET1 2016 developed at Argonne National Laboratory. Argonne’s currently supported GREET versions are available. The changes staff made in converting GREET1 2016 into CA-GREET3.0 are documented in this document.
Lookup Table Pathways (Table 7-1)
CA-GREET3.0 Lookup Table Technical Support Documentation. Describes the calculations, assumptions, and conditions for using the Lookup Table pathways developed by CARB using CA-GREET3.0. The CI of Lookup Table pathways for California Average Grid Electricity used in Transportation and the Smart Charging/Smart Electrolysis pathways are subject to annual updates, pursuant to section 95488.5(d). For the 2019 CIs of these electricity pathways, visit LCFS Pathway Certified Carbon Intensities and technical documentation.
Temporary Pathways Table (Table 8)
Temporary pathways certified pursuant to section 95488.9(b)(4) of the LCFS regulation:
- Biomethane CNG, LNG or L-CNG from Anaerobic Digestion of Swine Manure
- Renewable Propane
- Alternative Jet Fuel
- Renewable Naphtha
