At the public hearing held on June 26, 2008, CARB approved a SIP revision for attainment of the 8-hour ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards in the Western Mojave Desert ozone attainment area. The Western Mojave Desert Ozone Nonattainment Area consists of the Antelope Valley portion of Los Angeles County and the southwestern portion of San Bernardino County. The Antelope Valley Air Quality Management District (AVAQMD) has jurisdiction over the Los Angeles County portion, and the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District (MDAQMD) has jurisdiction over the entire Mojave Desert, including the portion within the Western Mojave Desert Ozone Nonattainment Area. The AVAQMD and MDAQMD adopted attainment demonstration plans which projects attainment of the federal 8-hour ozone standard by 2021.
