CARB’s Research Program supports both external and in-house research initiatives to track and characterize GHG emissions, assess co-benefits to health, the environment, and the economy, and explore strategies to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), and Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCP) like black carbon (BC), methane (CH4), and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).
Climate research initiatives include:
Greenhouse gas emissions and sinks from natural working lands
Measurement systems on local and statewide scales
Dairy emissions from changes in management practices
New refrigerant technologies and recycling of existing refrigerants
Wildfire emissions in a changing world and impacts on environmental justice outcomes
Carbon neutrality and climate change impacts on health, economics, and other factors
Equitable transition to a low-carbon future
