CalSMP will be used to reduce methane emissions in California.
California Satellite Methane Project
Through its research program, CARB evaluates new technologies to find innovative ways to support California's climate goals and protect public health. Methane plume imaging satellites are a promising new technology that emerged over the past decade, and CARB played an important role in their development. Building off its foundational research, CARB is now among the first in the world to employ satellite plume imagers to reduce methane emissions through the California Satellite Methane Project (CalSMP).
