Established by Senate Bill 1013, the Fluorinated-gas (F-gas) Reduction Incentive Program (FRIP) has received a total of $66 million to promote the adoption of climate-friendly, low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant technologies to help California meet Senate Bill 1383 F-gas reduction targets and reach carbon neutrality.
The first round of FRIP awards in 2020 supported grocery stores and supermarkets in transitioning to climate-friendly refrigerant technologies. FRIP Round 2 funding addresses market barriers to incentivize the adoption of ultra-low-GWP refrigerant technologies and reduces F-gas emissions in a variety of sectors, including commercial and industrial refrigeration.

The first FRIP application window opened on October 14, 2024 and will close on January 31, 2025. The Commercial and Industrial Refrigeration Funding Guidelines contain all the information that is necessary for applicants to submit an application and be considered for FRIP funding. The total funding available for this solicitation is $38.5 million for climate-friendly refrigerants in California commercial and industrial refrigeration facilities.
