Freeport McMoRan oil & Gas Case Settles for $40,000
Freeport McMoRan Oil & Gas is a petroleum and natural gas producer in California subject to the Mandatory Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Regulation (MRR). For the 2013 annual reporting period, the Company failed to comply with MRR by incorrectly quantifying fugitive emissions from storage tanks. In one instance the error represented more than 5% of the facility’s total emissions. The Company self-disclosed the reporting mistake to ARB and promptly remedied the error upon discovery. Freeport McMoRan agreed to a $40,000 penalty for the violation, and submitted an updated GHG Monitoring Plan to ARB to demonstrate that reporting will be accurate in future years.
