Description of Approach
Drayage trucks transporting cargo to and from California’s intermodal seaports and railyards will be a part of a new rulemaking to support the goals toward reducing California’s long-term air quality, climate, and public health impacts. This requires a transition from the conventional combustion technologies to zero-emission everywhere feasible.
Drayage trucks will be included as part of the regulatory package under the Advanced Clean Fleets rulemaking focused on strategies to ensure that the cleanest vehicles are deployed by government, business, and other entities in California to meet their transportation needs. This effort is part of a comprehensive strategy to achieve a zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) truck and bus fleet by 2045 everywhere feasible and significantly earlier for certain market segments such as last mile delivery, public fleets, and drayage applications.
Potential Impacts
This action could achieve moderate reductions in toxic and criteria pollutant emissions with significant reductions of toxic, criteria, and greenhouse gas pollutants expected after full implementation. These reductions would provide critical benefits to reduce community health risk, fulfill State Implementation Plan commitments to attain federal air quality standards, and meet greenhouse gas targets.
