Research
Strong science is at the foundation of California’s air quality and climate programs. The California Air Resources Board sponsors a comprehensive research program that investigates air pollution’s causes, effects and solutions. The findings of this research support all the regulations on cars, trucks, fuels, power plants, and other pollution sources. The research, which results in five additional dollars for each dollar CARB invests, is done under the guidance of CARB’s Research Screening Committee and in partnership with the campuses of the University of California system and other research institutions.
Join Us to Help Incorporate Environmental Justice into CARB Research Priorities
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) Research Program has started a public process to develop a 5-Year Strategic Research Plan (Plan). The Plan guides CARB’s selection of annual research projects that are designed to inform CARB actions on clear air, climate change, and public health.
CARB is collaborating with communities through a series of roundtable meetings designed to help incorporate environmental justice into future research on air quality, climate change, health, and sustainable communities. Please join us to share your research needs and priorities in small group discussions. All meetings are open to the public and we encourage Tribes, communities, academics, organizations, and others to join the roundtables. Outcomes from the meeting will help shape potential research projects for the 2025-2030 time period. Go to the landing page for this effort to see the full schedule of events and registration links for each meeting.
