CY Flooring, Incorporated Case Settles for $67,000
On March 8, 2019, a case was settled with CY Flooring, Incorporated (Anaheim, California) for selling, supplying, and offering for sale in California non-compliant finished goods that contained thin medium density fiberboard. The product, CY Flooring Honey Maple, contained formaldehyde emissions above the limits set forth in the Airborne Toxic Control Measure to Reduce Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products, which has been in effect since January 1, 2009. In addition, CY Flooring, Incorporated was found in violation of not taking reasonable and prudent precautions because CY Flooring, Incorporated purchased and sold finished goods containing composite wood products without written documentation from their supplier stating that the products comply with CARB’s emission standards. CY Flooring, Incorporated has since discontinued sales of the non-compliant product and made improvements to their best management plan to ensure that only compliant composite wood products are sold. CY Flooring, Incorporated has agreed to pay $67,000.00 to settle this case.
