Chevron U.S.A. Inc. Case Settles for $25,000.00
In January 2013, Chevron paid $25,000 in penalties for supplying diesel in violation of California diesel fuel regulations. In August 2009, Chevron supplied more than 36,000 gallons of diesel that did not meet the minimum Cetane number from its El Segundo Refinery. California’s diesel fuel regulation requires producers and importers to report their fuel specifications prior to the sale, offer for sale, or supply into the California market. During blend correction to raise the Cetane, it appears the tank line was accidentally opened and non-compliant diesel was supplied to the local truck rack, prior to certification. The violation was discovered then self-disclosed. Audits by Enforcement staff verified the violation. Chevron took steps to investigate, locate and either replace or recertify the non-compliant diesel fuel.
