Please see below for upcoming public events for the week of May 17, 2021.
Research Seminar: On May 17 via remote access, CARB staff will hold a public webinar to discuss new methods to understanding cumulative impacts for environment justice programs including Assembly Bill (AB) 617 (Garcia, Chapter 136, 2017) that led to the development of CARB’s Community Air Protection Program and Senate Bill 673 (Lara, Chapter 611, 2015) that addresses community vulnerability in hazardous waste permitting criteria. The seminar will cover contract projects including training and technical assistance of air quality monitoring, evaluation of community-engaged implementation, and application of novel methods to derive new indicators of cumulative impact and community vulnerability. Guest speakers will include University of California, Berkeley professor Rachel Morello-Frosch, University of California, Davis Associate Professor Jonathon London, and Tracking California Project Manager David Chang.
Board Meeting: On May 20 via webcast, the Board will hear the following agenda items: (1) Clean Miles Standard Regulation; (2) appointment of new members to the Assembly Bill (AB) 32 (Núñez, Chapter 488, 2006) Environmental Justice Advisory Committee; and (3) AB 617 Community Air Protection Program, Southeast Los Angles.
Public Workshop on Transportation and Refrigeration Units: On May 20 via webinar, CARB staff will hold a public workshop on Transportation and Refrigeration Units (TRU). Topics that will be covered include regulation applicability, hiring and contracting TRUs, compliance requirements, and registration and labeling. TRUs are used on semi-trailers, truck vans, shipping containers, and rail cars and most are diesel-powered. To reduce risk of exposure to diesel particulate matter from TRUs, owners, operators, dispatchers, and distribution centers must comply with the TRU Airborne Toxic Control Measures.
