2. Tracy Ruiz, GRID Alternatives, provided a presentation about outreach for the Access Clean California program.
- Uses a network of partners and CBO’s to do different types of outreach and education about ZEVs and ZE-mobility around the state
- Ride and drives need:
- require larger budgets
- Months of planning and coordination
- Liability insurance
- Dealership outreach and contracts
- Partnership with additional organizations
- Volunteers
- Static vehicle displays are still effective and need:
- Smaller budgets
- Weeks of planning
- No liability insurance required since vehicles are not being driven
- Dealership outreach and contracts
- Partnership with additional organizations
- Volunteers
- Ultimately, both are great ways to introduce the technology to communities
- Helps folks visualize the types of vehicles and better understand how they work
- Great way to showcase the ZEV differences for example between a PHEV and a BEV
- Folks can feel more comfortable applying for a program when they know how to operate the vehicles
Discussion
Ride and Drives are resource intensive with lots of partners so therefore have a high cost. This could be prohibitive for community-based organizations that don’t have the funding or capacity. CARB staff mentioned that this task force doesn’t have money, but can make recommendations for the Funding Plan staff to consider. CSE mentioned that 95% of the time response from new car dealers have positive responses. It would be good to pair ride and drives with EV bikes.
Next Steps/Action Items:
- Follow-up with workgroup participants about projects CSE has done in the Bay View Hunters Point Region
- Share Veloz ride and drive data
- Next meeting Tuesday, September 26
