Wan Hai Lines Ltd. Case Settles for $31,750
In March 2019, Wan Hai Lines Ltd. (Wan Hai) of Taipei, Taiwan settled violations of the Ocean-Going Vessel At-Berth Regulation for $31,750. The violations were discovered during a routine audit of Wan Hai’s 2017 Port of Los Angeles/Port of Long Beach
(LA/LB) fleet visits. The investigation by CARB revealed 127 violations by the LA/LB fleet for failing to reduce its auxiliary engine power generation by at least 70 percent. Wan Hai cooperated with the investigation and exceeded regulation requirements in the subsequent compliance year. To settle this case, Wan Hai agreed to the $31,750 penalty ($250 per violation) and agreed to comply with CARB regulations.
