$80,000 in Fines Paid by Vi-Jon Laboratories, Inc.

During a routine inspection on November 13, 1997, Compliance Division (CD) staff obtained samples of Albertson's Nail polish Remover, which is manufactured by Vi-Jon Laboratories. These products were tested and found to have volatile organic compound (VOC) contents in violation of the state standard. After a thorough investigation, staff referred this case to the Office of Legal Affairs (OAL) for settlement and / or litigation. OAL settled this case for $80,000, of which $40,000 was made payable to the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District as a remedial donation for District use in planning and executing a Portable Fuel Container exchange and recycling event to occur in the spring of 2001.
