US Foods, Inc. Settles For $1,500
In August 2021, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and US Foods, Inc., with its principal location in Vista, California, reached a settlement agreement in the amount of $1,500.00 for violations of CARB’s air quality regulations. The total amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
US Foods, Inc. is a food distribution business that operates three medium- and large-sized refrigeration systems, with the largest having a full charge of greater than 2,000 pounds of a high global warming potential refrigerant and which is subject to CARB’s Regulation for the Management of High Global Warming Potential Refrigerants for Stationary Sources (RMP Regulation).
US Foods, Inc. was referred for enforcement action due to failure to perform annual calibrations on an automatic leak detection system for reporting year 2018, as specified in California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 95386(a)(5). US Foods, Inc. fully cooperated with the investigation and came into compliance quickly, and put into place policies and procedures to prevent similar issues in the future.
