Tufesa USA, LLC Case Settles for $28,000
In December 2014, Tufesa USA, LLC paid $28,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $21,000.00 went to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $7,000.00 went to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Tufesa USA, LLC had failed to provide evidence that their vehicles have Emission Control Label’s (ECL) attached to the engines of heavy-duty diesel vehicles in its fleet and demonstrate that installed engines of heavy-duty diesel vehicles in its fleet met emission standards at least as stringent as applicable federal emission standards for the model year of the engine as required by the ECL Program. Tufesa USA, LLC also failed to meet PM BACT requirements for all 2005 through 2006 engine model years by January 1, 2014 as required by the Statewide Truck & Bus Regulation (STB). ARB documented violations as they related to ECL and STB. To settle the case, Tufesa USA, LLC agreed to the $28,000.00 penalty and to comply with ECL, STB and other ARB programs.
