Tirox Case Settles for $3,000
During a routine inspection of a retail outlet in California, a California Air Resources Board (CARB) inspector purchased and submitted to CARB’s laboratory for testing Chain Clean 360, manufactured by Tirox of Mississauga, Ontario (Canada). CARB’s laboratory determined that Chain Clean 360 contained concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) which exceeded the 10 percent limit for general purpose degreaser as stated in the Consumer Products Regulation, California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94509(a). California sales of Chain Clean 360 resulted in 211 pounds of excess VOC emissions released into the atmosphere. Tirox has paid a penalty of $3,000 and has brought the product into compliance with the Consumer Products Regulation
