Southern Telecom Inc. Settles For $7,000
In September 2023, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Southern Telecom Inc. (STI), with its principal location in Brooklyn, New York, for the company’s violations of the Regulation for Reducing Emissions From Consumer Products (Consumer Products Regulation) as codified in the California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94807 et seq.
CARB staff conducted an investigation that revealed STI sold, supplied, offered for sale or manufactured for use in California, a nonaerosol general purpose cleaner that contained a concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that exceeded the VOC standard specified in section 94509(a) of the Consumer Products Regulation. STI also failed to meet the product dating requirement as stated in California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94512(b).
STI fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter and ceased sale of the noncompliant product in California. The penalty amount of $7,000 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
