Source Category Codes Particulate Matter File Information

SCCPM: The file used to link the particulate matter profile data to the CEIDARS emissions. It also contains the SCC1N -> SCC8N fields, which contain categorical descriptions, and repeat the same fields in the SCCLIST file. These fields are not necessary for linking, and are included in the SCCPM file to simplify viewing.

  1. SCC: Field containing the Source Category Codes assigned to emission sources. This field may contain SCC codes (as used by the U.S. EPA and CARB) or EIC (Emission Inventory Code) codes, which are 14 digit codes defined and used by the CARB. CARB uses both the SCC and EIC codes to define emissions in its CEIDARS database. These codes will allow you to link to the emissions estimates in the CEIDARS database, in order to speciate the emissions.
  2. PMPRFCD : Field containing the particulate matter profile code assigned to the speciation profile. This code is an arbitrary code assigned by CARB.
  3. SCC1N -> SCC8N: These fields contain descriptions that define nested categories. In other words, the SCC8N category description is also grouped within a broader category of SCC6N and on down though the nested categories to SCC1N, which is the broadest category, which is signified by a single digit of the code.

Using the data

The data in this file are used in order to link the PMT emissions in CEIDARS to the PMT, PM10, or PM25 size fraction-specific compound data contained in the PMPROF and PMSPEC files. For the PM10 and PM25 emissions, you would first have to multiply the WTFRACOFPM10 and WTFRACOFPM2PT5 fields in the PMSPEC file by the WTFRACPM10 and WTFRACPM2PT5 fields, respectively, in the PMPROF file, by linking on the PMPRFCD field. You would then take the PM10 and PM25 products, and also the original, unmodified WTFRACOFPMT fields, and multiply each of them, independently by the CEIDARS PMT emissions values by linking via the PMPRFCD field to the source categories (SCC/EIC codes) indicated in the SCCPM file via the PMPRFCD field, and then to the CEIDARS emission data files via the SCC field (actually SCC or EIC codes). Note that a PM speciation profile may link to many SCC/EIC designated source codes.
