SK Innovation Co., Ltd. Case Settles for $790,000
SK Innovation Co., Ltd. will pay $790,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $592,500.00 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $197,500.00 will go to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program. This settlement was reached in March 2014.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that SK Innovation Co., Ltd. sold the Econix DPF-A Diesel Particular Filter Systems with warning systems that were not approved by the ARB. Specifically, the “Peak Pressure of the Exhaust” (PPE) values being used were not the same as those approved by the ARB. This is in violation of the Verification Procedure. To settle the case, SK Innovation Co., Ltd. agreed to the $790,000.00 penalty and to comply with ARB’s Verification Procedure. In addition, SK Innovation Co., Ltd. also agreed to a nationwide recall campaign that ends June 30, 2014.
