Serv-West Disposal, Inc. Case Settles for $6,375.00
In September 2013, Serv-West Disposal, Inc. agreed to pay $6,375 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $4,785 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $1,590 went to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California Community Colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology Program.
An investigation by the ARB showed that Serv-West Disposal, Inc. failed to comply with the solid waste collection vehicle rule by neglecting to install legally required emission-reduction devices by applicable compliance dates. Serv-West Disposal, Inc. also failed to properly self-inspect their diesel vehicles to assure that vehicles met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and the Solid Waste Collection Vehicle Program (SWCV). To settle the case, Serv-West Disposal, Inc. agreed to the $6,375 penalty and to comply with the PSIP and SWCV programs in addition to other ARB programs.
