Sakar International, Inc. Settles For $6,000
In August 2023, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Sakar International, Inc. (Sakar), with its principal location in Edison, New Jersey, for the company’s violation of the Regulation for Limiting Ozone Emissions From Indoor Air Cleaning Devices (Indoor ACD Regulation) as codified in the California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94800 et seq.
CARB staff conducted an investigation that revealed Sakar manufactured, sold, supplied, offered for sale, or introduced into commerce in the State of California indoor air cleaning devices that did not have the required CARB certification (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 17, § 94804). Sakar offered the uncertified indoor air cleaning devices for sale online; however, the website was missing the mandatory advisory required by California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94806(e). Sakar also did not provide a true and accurate copy of the Indoor ACD Regulation to their known distributors, retailers, and sellers who supply, offer to sell, or sell the uncertified indoor air cleaning devices.
Sakar cooperated fully with CARB to resolve this matter. To come into compliance, Sakar is no longer offering the noncompliant indoor air cleaning devices online and plans to only sell CARB certified indoor air cleaning devices. The penalty of $6,000 for six days of violation will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California’s air quality.
