Sakar International, Inc. Settles For $14,000
In February 2022, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Sakar International, Inc. (Sakar) of Edison, New Jersey, reached a settlement agreement in the amount $14,000 for Sakar’s violation of CARB’s air quality regulations. The $14,000 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
CARB staff conducted an investigation that revealed Sakar sold, supplied, and offered for sale in California, general purpose cleaner products that were not compliant with the Consumer Products Regulations. The “Sanitizing Tech Wipe” and “Cleansing Wipe” products manufactured by Sakar contained concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) that exceeded the standards specified in the California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94509(a) (Consumer Products Regulations). The violation resulted in approximately 0.96 tons of excess VOC emissions in the “General Purpose Cleaner” category.
Sakar fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter. To come into compliance, Sakar removed these products from the California marketplace. Additionally, Sakar has reformulated these products to be in compliance with the State’s Consumer Products Regulations
