Ultrafine particles are the smallest particles and are good indicators of any kind of fuel burning, from diesel engines to refinery operations. The network will measure ultrafine particle numbers at 10 to 12 sites within the Harbor Communities. Riverside, CA will also be studied for comparision as a site further inland. Each community will be monitored for 3 months in each of two seasons (summer and winter).
How were the sites selected?
Ultrafine particle network sites were/will be located at or near the locations of existing fixed-site monitors and at or near the locations of the passive sampling sites.
