Purpose

The Clean Truck Check Outreach Kit equips organizations and associations with current information and ready-to-share materials to understand the regulation and communicate how requirements may affect operations. Content may be reused as written or adapted, and images may be used with acknowledgement to the California Air Resources Board (CARB). 

The kit brings together a plain-language overview, who is covered, key timelines and deadlines, and a clear pathway to compliance. It also includes links to training videos and webinars, a subscription option for updates on the regulation, help contacts, web resources that point to additional Clean Truck Check information, printable materials such as bi-folds, flyers, and fact sheets, and infographics suitable for newsletters and social posts.

Background

Clean Truck Check is a CARB program that helps ensure emissions control equipment is working properly on heavy-duty vehicles. It applies to almost all diesel, alternative-fuel, and hybrid vehicles with a manufacturer’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 14,000 pounds that operate on public roads and highways in California.   

To comply, vehicle owners should create an account and report vehicles in the Clean Truck Check Vehicle Inspection System (CTC-VIS), pay the annual compliance fee per vehicle, and submit a passing emissions compliance test before each vehicle’s due date.
