R & F Disposal Inc. Case Settles For $17,000
In February 2013, R&F Disposal Inc., based in McFarland, agreed to pay $17,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $11,334.00 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $5,666.00 will go to Peralta College Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that R&F Disposal Inc. failed to comply with the Solid Waste Collection Vehicle (SWCV) rule by neglecting to install legally required emission reduction devices by applicable compliance dates. Further, R&F Disposal Inc. failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the SWCV regulation and Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP). To settle the case, R&F Disposal Inc. agreed to the $17,000 penalty and to comply with the SWCV and PSIP programs.
