Pyrolites Firestarters Settles For $5,000
In June 2022 the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Pyrolites Firestarters (Pyrolites), with its principal location in Grass Valley, California, in the amount of $5,000 for the company’s violation of CARB’s air quality regulations.
An investigation conducted by CARB staff disclosed that Pyrolites sold, supplied, and offered for sale, in California, a charcoal lighter material that did not meet regulatory standards specified in California Code of Regulations, title.17, section 94509(h) and section 94512(b). To settle the case, Pyrolites agreed to a penalty of $5,000 for selling uncertified charcoal lighter material that also lacked a date of manufacture in California.
The $5,000 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. Pyrolites fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter. To come into compliance, Pyrolites has relabeled their product and will no longer sell the product as a charcoal lighter material.
