Porsche Settles For $3,151,540
Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG and subsidiary Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (collectively, “Porsche”), the German sports car manufacturer, in December 2020 settled emission-related issues with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) that affected roughly 72,000 gasoline vehicles from model years 2011 through 2019. Through the company’s diligence and cooperation, it self-disclosed these issues to CARB between 2018 and 2019, which involved the application of unapproved software updates, the use of incorrect test procedures, and uncertified retrofit kits and fuel components.
Roughly half of the total civil fine of $3,151,540 will be paid to CARB for the Air Pollution Control Fund, while the remaining funds will be divided among three Supplemental Environmental Projects intended to provide tangible benefits to the residents of Imperial County. Porsche has also taken several actions to either correct or lessen any negative emission impacts of the subject violations in California.
