The Pep Boys: Manny, Moe & Jack Case Settles for $356,000
In December 2018, The Pep Boys: Manny, Moe & Jack (Pep Boys), of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, settled its case with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The case involved the sale of aftermarket parts (i.e. catalytic converters, intake kits, etc.) without a CARB Executive Order. The parts altered or modified the original design or performance of the motor vehicle pollution control device or system. This conduct was in violation of California Code of Regulations title 13, 2222, Vehicle Code 27156 and 38391. Pep Boys has agreed to pay a $599 per unit penalty, resulting in a total penalty amount of $356,000.
Pep Boys has agreed not to sell any add-on or modified aftermarket parts in violation of California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2222 and California Vehicle Code sections 27156 and 38391.
