SACRAMENTO– The California Environmental Protection Agency's Air Resources Board (ARB) will officially begin its roadside heavy-duty diesel truck and bus smoke inspection program next week. A media availability and photo opportunity on the inspections is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, 1998, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Sacramento, Los Angeles and the Bay Area.

Why: | The inspection program is being implemented to assure that heavy-duty diesel vehicles meet California's air emissions standards. Heavy-duty vehicles have not been subject to any type of routine emission inspections since 1993. |
