SACRAMENTO - Air Resources Board Chairman Mary D. Nichols today issued the following statement of support for Governor Kate Brown’s signing of Oregon’s Clean Fuels Bill:
“Governor Brown has demonstrated the courage to move forward and the commitment for one more sub-national government to take the lead in the fight to curb climate change. Her action provides a solid reminder that no individual jurisdiction must face this battle alone – and that only by working together can we make a difference far beyond the limitations of any single government.”
California’s Low Carbon Fuel standard (LCFS) has been in effect since 2010. It is one of several greenhouse gas emission reduction measures developed under the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32). It requires a 10 percent reduction by 2020 in the carbon intensity of transportation fuels sold in California.
California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia formed the Pacific Coast Collaborative (PCC) to help coordinate regional efforts to battle climate change. The PCC’s role includes the harmonization of West Coast climate efforts and encouraging further efforts by sub-national jurisdictions to curb the impacts of climate change.
