Mike Tamana Freight Lines Case Settles for $12,000.00
In September 2013, Mike Tamana Freight Lines LLC paid $12,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $9,000.00 went to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $3,000.00 went to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Mike Tamana Freight Lines LLC failed to bring one of their Transport Refrigeration Units (TRUs) into compliance with the applicable in-use performance standards and failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards. ARB also documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP), Statewide Truck and Bus (STB) regulation and the TRU Air Toxic Control Measure regulation. To settle the case, Mike Tamana Freight Lines LLC agreed to the $12,000.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP, STB and TRU programs.
