Merkow Wholesale Distributors Case Settles for $6,600
In June 11, 2010, Merkow Wholesale Distributors agreed to pay $6,600 penalties; $4,950 to the California Air Pollution Control Fund and $ 1,650 to the Peralta Community College District, for violating air quality regulations enforced by the Air Resources Board (ARB). The Merkow Wholesale Distributors failed to provide Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) data for year 2008 and 2009 and demonstrate compliance with Emission Control Label (ECL) requirements pursuant to Title 13 California Code of Regulations, Section 2180-2194. The case emphasizes the importance of the annual smoke inspections and proof of complying with federal emissions engine standards through ECL.
