Mahindra USA, Inc. Case Settles for $127,000
In March 2014, Mahindra USA, Inc. (Mahindra) agreed to pay $95,250.00 in penalties to the California Air Pollution Control Fund and $31,750.00 to a supplemental environmental project, for a total of $127,000.00 for violating air quality regulations. An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Mahindra failed to comply with the off-road compression-ignition engine regulation by neglecting to certify engine families in 2012. Mahindra sold 19 and offered for sale 8 non-certified off-road compression-ignition engines across 10 engine families. To settle the case, Mahindra agreed to the $127,000.00 penalty and that it will not sell, offer for sale, or advertise any new non-California certified off-road compression-ignition engines for use in California. This settlement takes into consideration that Mahindra was cooperative throughout the enforcement process and does not have a history of violations.
