Kop-Coat Settles for $587.50
On January 22, 2001, during a routine inspection, samples of Z-Spar Spray Finish were obtained in San Diego, California. The samples were labeled for "Industrial Use-Only" and staff determined that the product met the definition of a "primer" and were tested by the Monitoring and Laboratory Division accordingly. Further investigation revealed that the products were mislabeled and should have read: "For Marine Applications Only." A total of 1,204 of the 12-oz aerosol containers were shipped and offered for sale in California before the problem could be corrected. Sherwin Williams manufactured and labeled this product for Kop-Coat. On April 3, 2002, the Air Resources Board's Office of Legal Affairs settled this case with Kop-Coat for $587.50.
