Imperial Irrigation District Settles For $110,000
In July 2025, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with the Imperial Irrigation District (IID), with its principal business office in Imperial, California for the company’s violation of the Management of High‑Global Warming Potential Refrigerants for Stationary Sources (Refrigerant Management Program or RMP Regulation), as codified in California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 95380 et seq.
An investigation conducted by CARB Enforcement Division staff documented that IID failed to repair refrigerant leaks by the deadlines set forth in the RMP Regulation. To settle the case, IID agreed to an average penalty of $2,750 for each late day, resulting in a total settlement amount of $110,000. The full amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. Terms of the settlement also include a requirement that IID will comply with all other CARB regulations going forward.
IID worked cooperatively with CARB staff to quickly resolve this matter. Further, they have had no prior compliance issues, and implemented additional measures to reduce the potential of any future violations.
