Imperial Irrigation District Settles For $45,000
In July 2022, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Imperial Irrigation District (IID) in the amount of $45,000 for violation of the Regulation for Reducing Sulfur Hexafluoride Emissions from Gas Insulated Switchgear (SF6 GIS Regulation), per California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 95350, et seq. The original CARB Regulation was adopted in 2010 and was amended in 2022, adding phase-out requirements, amending annual emissions limits, and adding new rules regarding transfer of SF6. The violation occurred prior to the adoption of the new provisions; therefore, the violation falls under the 2010 Regulation.
An investigation conducted by CARB staff showed that IID failed to meet the annual reporting requirements for their 2018 report in violation of California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 95356, and was subject to penalties under section 95358.
IID agreed to pay a total of $45,000 in civil penalties for a total of 161 days of violations, with a per unit penalty of $320. IID fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter.
