Great Outdoor Products LLC Settles For $19,745
In February 2022, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Great Outdoor Products LLC (Great Outdoor), for violations related to the sale of uncertified Portable Fuel Container (PFC) spouts in California. Great Outdoor, located in Wood Cross, Utah, manufactures the RotopaX brand of PFCs.
CARB investigative staff discovered that Great Outdoor advertised, sold, and offered for sale, uncertified PFC spouts that were advertised and marketed with references to PFCs. CARB’s Portable Fuel Containers and Spouts regulation requires that PFCs and components have an Executive Order with CARB before the spouts can be legally sold in California. Great Outdoor’s conduct was in violation of California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2467 et seq. (13 CCR § 2467 et seq.).
The resulting settlement requires the company to pay a total penalty of $19,745. Of the total amount, $9,872.50 will fund a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP) entitled Marine Vessel Speed Reduction Incentive Program Phase 2. The SEP will use these funds to provide financial and public relations incentives for owner/operators of ocean-going cargo vessels to slow down in vessel speed reduction zones during peak whale and ozone seasons. The remaining penalty amount of $9,872.50 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. Great Outdoor has agreed to comply with all PFC regulatory requirements going forward. Great Outdoor fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter.
