General Finishes Sales and Service Corporation Settles For $6,000
In August 2021, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with General Finishes Sales and Service Corporation (General Finishes) of East Troy, Wisconsin, in the amount of $6,000. The penalties will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
General Finishes sold, supplied, and offered for sale a noncompliant Wood Cleaner product that was manufactured for use in California. The Wood Cleaner contained concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) that exceeded the standards specified in the California Code of Regulations (CCR), title 17, section 94509(a) (17 CCR § 94509(a)). The violation resulted in 0.006 tons of excess VOC emissions in the Wood Cleaner category. Additionally, the product did not have a date of manufacture, as required in 17 CCR §94512(b). General Finishes fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter, has discontinued the product, and does not plan to manufacture this product in the future.
