F&M Towing Case Settles for $6,000
In September 2009, F&M Towing agreed to pay a total of $6,000 in penalties for violating air quality regulations, $4,500 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality, $750 will go to Peralta Community College District to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program, and $750 will go to the California Pollution Control Financing Authority, which The California Pollution Control Finance Authority (CPCFA) which works with participating financial institutions to provide low-cost innovative financing to California businesses. An audit of F&M Towing by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that the company failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and the Emission Control Label (ECL) Program. To settle the case, F&M Towing agreed to the $6,000 penalty and to comply with the PSIP and the ECL Program.
